Hi everyone, hope you’ve been keeping well!
Today I’m having a catch up, letting you know what we’ve been up to over the past couple of weeks.
Hannah and Gareth |
Two of the newest additions to the team, twirly Hannah and climber Gareth have been the latest targets for our ruthlessly nosey journalism, and I’ve included a snippet below so you can get to know them a little better too!
Credit where credit is due, this time in Australia |
What attracted you to Wired Aerial Theatre?
Hannah: I saw Fuerza Bruta at the Roundhouse over 4 years ago and I immediately wanted to do aerial performance. I did some research and came across Wired- I took part in some workshops and courses and from that point loved the company and their work.
Gareth: Two things: The company itself as they really excite me. And second, the fact it was stealing all of my friends and I wanted to know why.
How has your time with the company team been so far?
Hannah: Its been an amazing journey so far, it was a really quick process of learning the role and performing at the end of last summer but I have enjoyed every minute. I love the show I've never enjoyed performing a show so much- I get such an adrenaline rush, especially at the opening night of Sydney Festival where the audience just went on and on!!
Gareth: Extremely challenging, almost overwhelming and the most amount of fun I've had at work.
What’s been the most challenging/rewarding/exciting/interesting thing about adopting/training in this performance style/technique?
Hannah: It's been challenging to get the strength in the right place for this type of work and for such a physically demanding show but I have loved the challenge. Being part of the production and company is the reward.
Gareth: So far every day I have worked at Wired a new even more challenging, rewarding, exciting moment has been thrown at me, and they are always interesting!
What would you throw into room 101?
Hannah: Plastic bags and One Direction
Gareth: Coffee Barristers that don't know the difference between an Americano and a Filter Coffee.
"we dont do filter coffee, but I will make you an americano. it's the same" (It isn't!)
"we have ran out of filter coffee so I will make you an americano for the same price" (You won't!)
If I wanted an Americano I would have asked for one!

"IT'S NOT THE SAAAAME!" |
How can you get the two things confused! If they were the same thing, why would Pret A Manger, Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Nero, Eat and many others sell both items and buy two very expensive and different machines to make the same thing, you idiot!
FYI I have done some research on the matter in hand: Filter coffee is made from single origin coffees. An Espresso is made from a blend of coffee beans. The reason for this is that the espresso coffee machine extracts more flavours from the coffee and highlights the flavours (about 25% with an espresso coffee machine, about 15% with a filter brewing machine). A Kenyan coffee for example will be lovely for a filter coffee, but it would be to acidic for an Espresso so you have to blend it. Filter coffees are therefore great for tasting single origin coffees.
Both very nice, but both different!
That last one made me proper chuckle! If you’d like to see the complete interview then click here to visit our ATWT Facebook page, it’s well worth a read- and thanks to Hannah and Gareth for opening up in such a, umm, personal way? Hehehe!
Over at Edge Hill we’ve been holding the auditions for new entrants into our Aerial Dance modules, available as part of a variety of degree courses at the Ormskirk based university. We’re very proud of the work we do over there, and have been very impressed with the level of talent we’ve been seeing from our current students, who have recently completed their January assessments. If you’re interested in finding out more about it then you can visit the Edge Hill website here, but also, as part of our quarterly newsletter coming out this week you’ll be able to dig a little deeper, with an interview from the teachers themselves- the Wired team! If you’d like to receive our newsletter then it couldn’t be easier to sign up- follow this link, and click the big red button at the top of the page!

Air-time! |
Finally, as you might have been aware, Wired have been on the airwaves again in the last couple of weeks. Wendy, our Artistic Director went along for a good old chinwag with BBC Radio Merseyside, to chat about all things aerial and our love of them. I’ve included the interview below so kick back and enjoy the dulcet tones of our favourite twirly- she doesn’t believe me when I say it but she totally has a voice for radio!
Have a great week everyone, and look out for our newsletter winging its way to you soon, it’s full of great stuff!
See you next time!
Well done lovely!! Sounding great!! Love to all...HP and Steve xxx
