Afternoon all, hope you’re well and had a great Easter holiday! Today I’ve got some catch up news, and an opportunity for those of you out there who enjoy the spotlight, more about that later on!
First up, parles-tu français? Wendy Hesketh-Ogilvie our Artistic Director, and Maggie Clarke the Producer of As the World Tipped, visited France a couple of weeks ago to speak at the ArtVU hosted by the University of Amiens. The purpose of this collection of seminars and workshops was to share and explore the relationships between video and theatre, and what better example of the symbiosis of the two than As the World Tipped, which incorporates live aerialists interacting with a massive flying video screen in the sky?! Wendy and Maggie both had a wonderful time sharing their experiences and expertise, and the event was a great success! If you’d like to learn more about the Arts, Visual, Urban Seminars you can visit the European Zone of Artistic Projects website here.
The French way of life had always appealed to Maggie |
It’s been busy busy at The Higher Space lately with bungee-assisted dance and vertical wall workshops on the go, and we were thrilled to have Julia Taff, the leading aerial dance choreographer in Canada, travel all the way from her home town to learn alongside our other fantastic students. Already highly accomplished in vertical wall, Julia was most intrigued with our bungee-assisted dance technique, and spent over a week getting to grips with the style. Usually rigging her ropes from mountains high up in the air, it’s no surprise Julia was unfazed by flying a few metres up at The Higher Space – you’re welcome any time Julia, do come back and visit soon!
Wendy and Julia's invisible harnesses were surprisingly supportive! |
Finally, if you have a thing for the limelight and want to get your face on YouTube, then you should definitely come along to the bungee-assisted workshops going on at The Higher Space this weekend! We’re filming footage to use in our new workshop promo video and need plenty of happy bouncy people to show the rest of the world how much fun it is over here! If that’s not reason enough for you to jump into a harness right now, bare in mind that this weekend will be taught by Robert Guy AND Wendy Hesketh-Ogilvie, not only our company Head Aerialist but our Artistic Director too! Between them Rob and Wendy have racked up years worth of air-time and their collective knowledge and experience in aerial and contemporary dance seriously is second to none, so if you’re looking to learn from the best, this power couple can undoubtedly take your skills beyond what you thought capable. For dates and times go check out our diary page, and make sure to contact our admin team to check for availability.
That’s about it for today, I’ll be back next week with more news from the front lines, till then keep an eye out on our website for updates and a nifty bit of rejigging which should prove to be pretty easy on the eyes.
See you next week!
